Same Sex
I thought as a child - for a girl to love a girl it was bad and not so bad. But for a boy to love a boy - then that’s really bad. I was raised to believe and accept that same sex is a horrible sin; it's immoral and has no place in the normal world. The norm in my world then, was boy and girl, man and woman, male and female - and that is final! Today people all over the world are fighting for this cause to decriminalize and to entrench it in their constitution as a right to love their own sex. On June 26, 2015, the US Supreme Court ruled that The US constitution guarantees that in all 50 states same sex couples have the right to marry.
This is a fundamental decision for the LGBT community, who has been lobbying for this cause. For those who hold a different view as it relates to same sex relationships - this is a slap in their face and for the most part their religious beliefs. When an issue which affects a people becomes entrenched in a constitution it becomes the norm. Discriminatory behaviour is expected to lessen over time until it becomes the norm. But norms are not always the majority ruled, in my opinion it is the wealthy and powerful minority which makes the rule for the majority with the intention to change the view of them all.
On the face of it, if you ask your neighbour if they believe people should have a right to choose who to be in a relationship sexually or otherwise, in my mind I think they would all say yes, people should be able to choose. Yes, on the face of it we should be able to choose who to love without the fear of discrimination; unfortunately that's not always the case whether it is on the matter of same sex or smoking crack cocaine or marijuana. However, we now have a situation where the things that were abhorred and scorned are now seen as rights and norms in society.
The posture that is being perpetrated as a norm - is not a cause that came about today. This fight started as far back as in the 17th century. In 1791, France became the first country to decriminalize homosexuality - which became a norm for the French people and their culture.
The world we live in is an interesting place and even though we may not all see eye to eye, we must learn to see our neighbours' view through their eye.
